A program of the Bonner Soil and Water Conservation District, the Lake Assist program provides assistance to Bonner County residents on water quality concerns and suggestions on how to reduce pollutants to our abundant lakes, rivers, streams and groundwater.
Lake Assist
What We Do
The Lake Assist program was created to manage non-point source pollution to beautiful Lake Pend Oreille and Priest Lake. However, our materials and resources are not just lake specific, they also apply to rivers, streams, and groundwater.
Our goal is to provide one stop resources for the public regarding pollution prevention and land use regulations in Bonner County.
Non-Point Source Pollution is one of the biggest threats to our waterways. It is pollution that is not regulated through a pipe or "point source", making it difficult to track and manage. Nonpoint source pollution comes from leaking septic systems, oil and fuel spills, pet waste, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizer, road salt, bacteria, sediment (soil), and many other sources. Rainwater, snowmelt, flooding and spills cause these contaminants to enter our water, both surface water and ground.
